If Zachary Quinto’s Instagram is anything to go by, it looks like filming for Star Trek Beyond is wrapping up in Dubai.
Zach posted the following images and enigmatic comments on his account recently, hinting that the productions’ time in Dubai was coming to an end.
TrekCore (my go to site for all things Star Trek Beyond) seem to concur that things are winding down in Dubai, with this recent article right here.
As the crew wrap up filming, it’s time to ask a few questions.
From everything we’ve seen, it was obvious that Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella, Idris Elba and Anton Yelchin were in Dubai, but I couldn’t find any mention of Zoe Saldana or John Cho joining the rest of the cast there.
Zoe has been consistently posting on social media, and from most of those posts it seems like she stayed behind in the United States – and I’m not sure about John at all.
So, what does this mean for the film?
Could there be stuff happening that temporarily sidelines Uhura and Sulu? Are they off on a different mission?
If each starship now has individual uniforms (and that’s just a big guess), and Chris Pine was in the uniform that looks like it might be for the USS Yorktown, is there a situation where he and some of the Enterprise crew join the Yorktown? Could Uhura and Sulu be left on the Enterprise with one of them as acting captain?
Given how well the production team have kept the storyline a secret, who knows?
What I do know is I’m excited for next year and I’m finding it pretty hard to wait for more information on the story.
Keep checking in with TrekCore to see what extra bits they come up with from the Dubai shoot, and hopefully some site somewhere will let us know what’s next. Could they be off to the editing suite soon?
Bring on July 22.
