Star Trek: Renegades Update

Little drips of information are coming out about the next episode of the new independent Star Trek television series, Star Trek: Renegades.

A few days ago, we reported that Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) had joined the cast of Renegades, and now we have two other tid bits of news…

Multiple award winning makeup artist, Michael Westmore, has joined the behind the scenes team of Renegades!

Updates from the Renegades newsletter that is circulated to fans of the new series, had this to say about Michael:

“He’s been a member of the Star Trek family for decades.  You’ve seen his talent everywhere from The Munsters to MacGyver to Rocky and beyond.  He’s been a Next Gener, a Deep Space Niner, a Voyager and even a member of Starfleet with the Enterprise crew.

“Since 1917, almost every major studio had a ‘Westmore’ supervising their makeup departments, and now we have the pleasure of adding him to ours.  Not only is he bringing his 18 years of Star Trek expertise, he will be bringing the best of the best from Face Off to our show too.  We can’t wait to see what those talented artists bring to our set.”

Michael is a legend, and it’s very exciting he’s joining the production crew.

The last piece of news from the Renegades team is that Walter Koenig, who plays Admiral Chekov in the series, will not continue the role past episode three.

Here’s what the official Renegades website says, while talking about stepping up production for the second and third episodes:

“Walter Koenig has agreed to reprise Admiral Chekov in this two-part episode, with Episode 2 ending with a cliffhanger, and Walter has decided that Episode 3 will be his final performance as Chekov.

“We are so honored to work with Walter, who will be an active participant in the writing and production.”

So… that’s a bit ominous.  Does that mean that Walter has decided it’s time to kill off Chekov?  Or does the Star Trek legend and the writing team of Renegades have a gentler end in mind for a character who has come to mean so much to so many?

Either way, I’m happy that Walter will remain a part of the behind the scenes team.

That’s all the news we have on Renegades for now.  As more comes out, we’ll be sure to post it here!

If you haven’t watched the pilot episode yet, you can view it on YouTube or you can go to the Star Trek: Renegades website and either watch it or make a donation and buy a copy of the episode.  The Renegades website is right here and while you’re there, think about signing up for their newsletter.
